Solitude

Solitude checks to see if we have made the people in our lives more important than God. Are we desperate to get back in relationship with others so we no longer have to be alone with yourself and God.

Solitude helps us see yourself. There is nothing that can help us see who we really are like having to to alone with yourself for an extended period of time.

Relationships with people are all around us. God is more difficult to track down and therefore our relationship with him is often lacking. Solitude forces to do three things. Run back to people, sit miserably with yourself, or run desperately to God and find Him to be so good.

I say to the Lord , “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” Lord , you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
